The learning objectives for this course are to:
- Understand that an attendance management program consists of two different policies with different purposes: an attendance promotion policy (APP) and a sick leave policy.
- Understand the elements of an APP, including how to build a positive culture around expectations of regular attendance.
- Understand what data to gather on sick leaves in order to inform meaningful conversations with employees of concern.
- Understand the mechanics of having conversations with employees and the importance of confidentiality.
- Understand what processes might be triggered if you discover that some of the reasons for absenteeism is related to a protected ground under the Human Rights Code of BC.
- Understand the elements of a sick leave policy.
- Understand when proof of sickness may be requested under the sick leave policy, the processes for making the request, and in what circumstances discipline may be considered.
